Com’era prevedibile, anche l’Electronic Entertainment Expo è stato cancellato: l’E3 edizione 2020 non si farà. Le voci di un possibile slittamento della kermesse hanno già iniziato a circolare il 10 marzo. Adesso tramite i siti di ESA e E3 è arrivata la comunicazione ufficiale.
La notizia era stata anticipata dal portale Ars Technica che, secondo quanto riportato, avrebbe ricevuto le indiscrezioni direttamente da membri dell’ESA (l’ente organizzatore dell’evento) anticipando di poco le comunicazioni ufficiali.
E3, comunque, non godeva da tempo di buona salute: sono diverse le compagnie che avevano abbandonato il palco della manifestazione per dedicarsi a eventi propri. Electronic Arts, ad esempio, non si presenta in California già dal 2016. Sony, avrebbe saltato a prescindere l’edizione 2020 come già aveva fatto l’anno scorso. In molti predicono, o comunque auspicano, la trasformazione di E3 dall’attuale formula media-only in un evento consumer-oriented o, addirittura, in un appuntamento da trasmettere in streaming.

After careful consultation with our member companies regarding the health and safety of everyone in our industry – our fans, our employees, our exhibitors, and our longtime E3 partners – we have made the difficult decision to cancel E3 2020, scheduled for June 9-11 in Los Angeles.
Following increased and overwhelming concerns about the COVID-19 virus, we felt this was the best way to proceed during such an unprecedented global situation. We are very disappointed that we are unable to hold this event for our fans and supporters. But we know it’s the right decision based on the information we have today.
Our team will be reaching out directly to exhibitors and attendees with information about providing full refunds.
We are also exploring options with our members to coordinate an online experience to showcase industry announcements and news in June 2020. Updates will be shared on E3Expo.com.
